1. Never shop hungry 

This is the oldest trick in the book but nonetheless it's still a must and will stop you running straight to the chocolate/ice cream/crisp aisle as soon as you get to the store. Having a healthy snack before you shop will mean that you're less driven by what you want to buy and more by what you should be buying, often meaning that you'll spend a lot less on junk food in favour of more nutritionally balanced ingredients that are better for you and baby. 

2. Say no to your nose 

Ever wondered why supermarkets always smell of fresh bread even though the bakery is by the back of the store? Well, rumour has it that to get our taste buds going they actually pump this smell forward to the front of the shop to create that same tummy rumbling 'must have carbs' effect that shopping hungry has. So, next time you do your weekly shop, enjoy the smell but avoid falling into their cunning trap! 

3. Make a shopping list 

Again, another oldie but it's a classic money saving tip for a good reason. When you plan your meals for the week in advance, check what you already have in your cupboards and write down the list of ingredients you need before you even leave the house you're onto a winner for two reasons. Firstly, you're far more likely to only buy the things you need (so you won't end up with 7 bags of pasta and 12 tins of tuna in the cupboard) and avoid expensive and unnecessary impulse buys that will see you throwing away good food that is past its best - this is very easily done with fruit and veg. Secondly, as supermarkets spread the staples of your weekly shop throughout the store so that you have to stroll along all the aisles past all of their special offers to make your way from the milk to the tinned tomatoes, by making a list you'll be able to keep focused and avoid coming out with more than you'd budgeted for.

As we have seen, some fats are essential for good health while an excess of others can be harmful. The fats in a low-fat diet should primarily be ‘good’ monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fats, such as those that are found in olive oil or oily fish, for example. Saturated fats, which are found in foods such as fatty meat and poultry skin or full-fat dairy products, should be kept to a minimum, as should ‘trans fats’- hydrogenated vegetable oils, which are most often found in processed foods.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are taking PDA to another level. Before locking lips in front of millions at the Billboard Music Awards -- and being photographed with the Disney star's hand dangerously high on the BieberThigh -- the pair were spotted in all their puppy love glory at LA's airport.

"They are so cute together," a friend who saw the young couple check in together at LAX on their way to Vegas for the awards show. "They cut the line right in front of me in first class and were holding hands and giggling."

My spy in first class was about to confront them, "then I saw they were so in love it made me smile. Ah, young love, nothing is more beautiful."

The 83^rd Academy Awards are over, and not a minute too soon for most viewers. No major surprises in the big categories; even the most ardent believers in David Fincher cannot feign adequate shock that Best Director matched the Director's Guild choice for the 56 in 60 tries (not counting Steven Spielberg & Ron Howard who were not nominated after winning DGA, respectively, in 1985 & 1995.)

When Tom Hanks took the stage to introduce the first two awards of the night with a few nifty stats, it looked as if the Oscars were trying to steal the shtick of us Oscarwatching statisticians. Though really what kind of stat is a film winning Best Picture, Art Direction & Cinematography? An odd combo that means little to the numbers geeks and probably even less to the young viewers they were trying to court with their new hosts. The show pretty much dropped the stats game after Hanks' intro, but we thought we would dig a little to find a few more interesting tidbits, whether you like it or not. 

1. 'The King's Speech' became the 11th film since 1975 to win Best Picture without benefit of a single victory in the technical department. The other ten are 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', 'Annie Hall', 'Kramer vs. Kramer', 'Ordinary People', 'Terms of Endearment', 'Rain Man', 'The Silence of the Lambs', 'A Beautiful Mind', 'Million Dollar Baby', and 'No Country for Old Men.'

2. 'True Grit' joins 'The Turning Point' and 'The Color Purple' as films with double-digit nominations to leave without winning a single award. For the second straight year, four of the ten Best Picture nominees went home empty-handed. (NOTE: 'Turning' & 'Purple' received 11 nominations with 0 wins. Martin Scorsese's 'Gangs of New York' received 10 nods and went home empty.)

After tying the knot in front of millions last month, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge followed up with a super-private honeymoon that ended Friday, a royal statement confirms.

Prince William and Kate Middleton quietly jetted off to a remote Indian Ocean island retreat in the Seychelles, about 1,000 miles east of Kenya, to indulge in a sun-and-sand vacation out of the public eye.


The newlyweds "thoroughly enjoyed their time together, and they are grateful to the Seychelles government for their assistance in making the honeymoon such a memorable and special 10 days," says an official press release from St. James Palace.

Prince William and Kate Middleton were beaming as they stepped out of Buckingham Palace this morning, headed on a romantic weekend away. Duchess Catherine wore a gorgeous blue dress and blazer as she held hands with her new husband, who also had a big grin on his face. It's not their honeymoon just yet as the palace said in a press release on their official website, "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chosen not to depart for a honeymoon immediately. Instead, after spending the weekend privately in the United Kingdom, The Duke will return to work as a Search and Rescue pilot next week. The locations of both their private weekend before The Duke returns to work and their future honeymoon, which will be overseas, will not be disclosed in advance." William and Kate's wedding was an amazing affair from start to finish and hopefully they can enjoy a relaxing weekend together basking in the newlywed glow. Dem Babies FINALLY Make Their Arrival!!!


At last, at last … Mariah Carey gave birth AT LAST! Congratulations are in order forMariah Carey and Nick Cannon because at just after 9AM PT (12PM ET), she gave birth to the couples first children — a boy and a girl. The twins were born today which just so happens to also be the Mr. & Mrs. Cannon‘s 4 year wedding anniversary … which is just too perfect for words. April 30 is double the pleasure for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. Not only did they welcome twins, but the couple celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary, too! Carey, 41, delivered the babies Saturday at 12:07 p.m. EDT at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles. Carey’s representative, Cindi Berger, confirmed the births to The Associated Press, saying the baby girl was born first, weighing 5 lbs., 3 oz., and was 18 inches long; her brother was next, at 5 lbs. 6 oz., and was 19 inches. And it was just as Cannon predicted. “I’m not trying to be a psychic, but we renew our vows every year so … It’s probably going to be in the hospital this year. I can feel it,” Cannon said Thursday when he guest-hosted The Talk. “We got the minister coming in, so this gown will not be a wedding gown, but a hospital gown.” Berger says they were listening to Carey’s “We Belong Together” after the children were born … As for the origin of their babies’ names, Cannon told PEOPLE in January that the couple had aimed for unique but not wacky. “They won’t be crazy names like Carburetor or something,” he promised. “But they’re definitely unique.”


OMG … it’s about damn time! What a truly special day for Mimi and Nick. Not only are they celebrating the birth of their twin children today but they are also celebrating the 4 year anniversary of their marriage. April 30 will truly be one of the most important days in the couple’s lives … for all time! I can’t wait to hear more deets about the twins’ birth — including their names — but I think we’ll have to wait a bit to get that info. For now, let’s just send all of our love and congrats to the happy NEWLY EXPANDED family! May they live very long and very happy lives together!!! Wee!!
